#DearTwitter, Stop Letting Vested Interests Misuse You

Today, when I open Twitter, I am greeted by trends relating to politics and politicians. Trends hundreds of people seem to be tweeting about.

Twitter has come a long way since it started. Today, it has a recorded 1.3 billion registered users, out of which 100 million users are active every single day. That's 100 million users who're constantly sharing information, constantly reading information and constantly changing their opinions based on information. Having hundred million active users brings on a certain sense of responsibility, does it not?

Social media -- especially Twitter -- today has a very significant effect on how we're shaped as a society, how we think as a community and what we think about as individuals. Social media today affects our future tomorrow. Now that shouldn't lead to social media being denoted as a hazard. It's not. But today, Twitter is growing into a tool used by political parties to manipulate opinions, influence the public, defame the competition and create fake majorities that can make the difference between winning or losing; thriving or declining; developing or degenerating. Twitter has grown into something more than a website; Twitter can have treacherous implications if not regulated wisely.

Twitter is growing into a tool used by political parties to manipulate opinions, influence the public, defame the competition and create fake majorities...

Today, Twitter is being used to play a dirty game, a game that is morally wrong. Fake accounts are produced, fake tweets are sent out in bulk, fake trends are fabricated. And as I mentioned earlier, Twitter is used to create fake majorities, a use I'm sure you're well aware of, a use that makes the general public reconsider their own opinion; their own choices.

This use or, well, misuse, takes place because you're allowing it.

Twitter officially supports the use and management of multiple accounts through the same interface. A tool you own is helping political parties to initiate propaganda through morally incorrect means. TweetDeck is having adverse effects and needs to be discontinued to prevent Twitter from plummeting to its decline, to prevent it from becoming not a microblogging site, but an instrument used to manipulate the opinions of the masses.
