How Make In India Is Opening Up The Road For Travel Start-Ups

The chasm between developed and developing nations might seem insurmountably wide at times. Yet, one blessing of living in a developing nation is the opportunity to watch the country evolve, to see that while we may not be the best now we can be so in future years. India is currently witnessing a gamut of dynamic and evolutionary innovations and practices, crystallized best in the Make in India scheme. During Make in India Week this February, it was clear that we are on the threshold of showcasing the potential of design, innovation and sustainability across our nation's manufacturing sector in the coming years. So while the past two decades saw the influx of foreign investment and multi nationals in India, the coming years will ignite the sense of pride in the nation's own manufacturing capabilities.

Make in India and digital entrepreneurship

The start-up movement is inextricably linked to the Make in India project. The idea is to bridge the gaps between factors that otherwise hamper digital entrepreneurships at the grassroots. With such an initiative, start-ups can foresee a bright future for themselves at least in terms of setting up. Of course, after that, it is the product or the service that matters.

Travel start-ups have a wider role to play in the Indian economy in terms of job creation and creating dynamic opportunities for talent.

Today, India ranks third among start-up ecosystems globally. This trend is sure to flower with the government's support. A start-up can be built in a day which is enough to motivate many young entrepreneurs to make their nascent ideas materialize. What were earlier the most difficult parts such as funding and documentation seem to have easy channels today! There is a faster patent registration process and protection for intellectual property rights, both of which are confidence boosters for entrepreneurs.

A self-sustaining economy
Make in India is paving the path to empowerment and self-sufficiency, and the tech sector is doing its part too. While earlier we were termed as the "outsourced" country, we are today making steady but firm steps in creating job opportunities within our own borders. Indian technology product startups like InMobi, Zoho, FreshDesk, Pubmatic, FusionCharts etc. have already established themselves globally, and there is scope for others too.

Travel start-ups in India
So how do travel start-ups fit in? While travel guidance is seen as a form of service-based technology, it is actually the product that makes all the difference for such ventures. At a time when travel start-ups are proliferating in India, it is the quality, utility and appropriateness of the product that determine success. Travel start-ups have to offer something unique to stand out from the crowd. For instance, Triphobo, my start-up, specializes in planning itineraries for customers through an interface product that ensures a more reliable and realistic approach towards forming travel plans, along with benefits such as hotel bookings, activity planning and so on.

Travel start-ups also have a wider role to play in the Indian economy in terms of job creation and creating dynamic opportunities for talent.

The nation's tourism sector will get a boost due to the rise of travel start-ups.

What Make in India would do to alleviate the condition of start-ups in India would be to render agency in terms of the formation of a legal identity. Earlier, start-ups had to struggle to carve a niche for themselves - today, they can think of seamless processes to support them. From the conception of the idea to showcasing the product at the end, the process will become more ordered and coherent.

As for the equation between travel start-ups and the ever-improving government policies, there would be a mutual reciprocation as the nation's tourism sector will get a boost due to the rise of travel start-ups. These start ups will be the fulcrum in expanding factors such as rural tourism, attracting foreign tourists and enlightening the local population about India as a tourist destination. By making travel easier, they'll get more and more people to pack their bags and set out.
